O3b Networks Awards Satellite/Vsat Contracts

Satellite operator O3b Networks contracted a number of vendors to support its satellite communications offerings. General Dynamics’ Satcom Technologies, Gilat Satellite Networks, Comtech EF Data and ViaSat are chosen to provide a wide selection of customer access systems for the O3b, with capability to meet the  standard throughput ranging from 1 Mbps to 1Gbps. General Dynamics’ Satcom Technologies will make 1.8m and 2.4m antennas to be used with standard transmitter packages. Comtech EF Data will provide O3b-compatible  modems and hub systems modeled after its CDM modem products. The O3b Comtech EF Data system will feature compression and network optimisation functionality designed to meet the unique demand of mobile backhaul and trunking applications.  Existing Comtech EF Data hardware can be adapted for use with the O3b system. Gilat Satellite Networks will be providing VSATs, hubs and modems via SkyEdge II platform, with support for both standard GEO and O3b MEO services. The contractor will also provide  value added services like integration with other sub-system providers and installation of satellite terminals.
